DAVID CLARENBACH State Representative Dear Peter, Would you be interested in having lunch with Bella Abzug? Bella will be in Madison on Friday, May 5 to talk about the national plans for ratification of the ERA and to help kick-off my campaign for re-election to the Assembly. We've planned a fundraising lunch for that noon at the Hillel Foundation, and I've enclosed some tickets with the hope that you will purchase them for yourself or sell them to a friend. I would certainly appreciate your help, and I also think you will enjoy the event. If you will be coming, could you let me know at 251-2528? Look forward to seeing you, Pravid 123 W. BELLA ABZUG and STATE REPRESENTATIVE DAVID CLARENBACH AT HILLEL 611 LANGDON STREET FRIDAY, MAY 5-12:00 NOON $5.00 Admit One No 670 9 Paid for by Clarenbach Campaign Fund, P. Mansfield, Treas. --- TAURUS 85 92 10 David Clarenbach - legislator, politician, activist, but most of all, a friendly person who cares about his community. Whether he's at bat for his city softball team, greeting friends at the sidewalk art fair, attending neighborhood meetings, or defending city interests in the State Assembly-David Clarenbach is involved in the Madison community, and works hard for it. He works for it because, like so many others, he loves Madison and wants to help make it an even better place to live. On the County Board, on the City Council and in the State Assembly-David has always fought for programs that revitalize and strengthen central Madison. He's been a strong advocate for mass transit, neighborhood preservation, community beautification, and effective land-use planning. When the State Building Commission ignored city demands and decided to construct a new downtown state office building that violated neighborhood plans, it was David Clarenbach who led a delegation of city activists to meet with the Governor. From that meeting came a determination to change the building so it would be more compatible with the downtown neighborhood. David Clarenbach works hard for our community and has won the endorsement of the Women's Political Caucus, the Wisconsin Education Association, the United Auto Workers, AFL-CIO COPE, the Wisconsin Firefighters, and the Wisconsin Physicians' Alliance. In addition, the Environmental Decade, Capital Community Citizens, the Farmers' Union, and Common Cause have all rated David's performance in the legislature as one of the best. AGAINST THE REACTIONARY ELEMENTS OF BOTH POLITICAL PARTIES. FIGHTING FOR PEOPLE. FIGHTING FOR PROGRESS. FIGHTING FOR HUMAN RIGHTS AND SOCIAL JUSTICE. FIGHTING EVERYDAY FOR ISSUES THAT AFFECT YOUR LIFE, YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD, AND OUR COMMUNITY. Clarenbach --- WE HAVE TO FIGHT FOR THEM. AND NO ONE, BUT NO ONE, FIGHTS HARDER THAN DAVID CLARENBACH. AGAINST THE ODDS. AGAINST THE SPECIAL INTERESTS. Clarenbach DAVID CLARENBACH •He led the fight for a moratorium on the development of nuclear power plants until their safety can be assured. He led the fight against wasteful state spending by opposing the $20 million development of additional state office buildings in downtown Madison which intrude on neighborhood integrity. He led the fight for a more progressive state income tax with new tax brackets on upper income levels so the wealthy are taxed at a higher rate. He led the fight for a Citizens Utility Board to give consumers a stronger voice before the Public Service Commission. He led the fight against cutting off state funds for abortion in order to prevent discriminatory treatment of poor women. • He led the fight to decriminalize the use and possession of small amounts of marijuana. • He led the fight to establish a bill of rights for hospital patients. He led the fight to eliminate Wisconsin's archaic sexual conduct laws and prohibit discrimination based on sexual preference. He led the fight for a clean election fund to publicly finance state election campaigns so that special interest influence is reduced and political competition is enhanced. A PROGRESSIVE DEMOCRAT --- Human rights, social justice, and progressive government. They don't come easy . . . --- When you've got a Representative as good as David Clarenbach . . . M --- You elect him again and again. Because David Clarenbach is committed to progressive issues and has demonstrated again and again the courage to fight for them regardless of the political consequences. He fought legislative leaders to open up the meetings and caucuses of state government. He fought an unresponsive tax bureaucracy to promote tax reform through a more progressive state income tax. He fought the utility companies to establish a Citizens Utility Board and to set a moratorium on nuclear power plant development. He fought the powerful special interest groups to create the Clean Election Fund to publicly finance state election campaigns. He fought these battles, and many more, because David Clarenbach believes that the true test of government is not how popular it is with the powerful, but how responsive it is to the ordinary people who depend on it. CLARENBACH Fighting for you on the tough issues. Again and again. ---
