leadership for the future

David
Clarenbach
State Representative
David Clarenbach has proven himself to be an
accomplished legislator and deserves your support.
In 1972 when David Clarenbach became the
youngest supervisor ever elected to the Dane County
Board, much was predicted of his potential for
leadership. Ten years later, after serving on both the
County Board and the City Council and four terms
in the State Assembly, those predictions have been
realized. David Clarenbach has emerged not only as
one of the legislature's most articulate advocates for
progressive ideas, but also as an effective fighter who
can get the job done. He has attracted national
attention as our state representative, was selected
one of the "Outstanding Young Men in America,"
and has been repeatedly honored by groups such as
Wisconsin's Environmental Decade and Wisconsin
Women's Political Caucus.
"He stuck to his agenda and continued making
progress. He learned how to overcome opposition
to sensitive issues . . . he did his homework and
learned how to fight silly arguments with facts."
The Janesville Gazette
During his eight years in the legislature, over
90 of the bills he has introduced and co-authored
have become law. In the past session alone, he saw
over twenty initiatives enacted—many of which are
the innovative result of several years of diligent
organizing and perseverance.
David Clarenbach, without question, has
become one of the state's leading proponents for civil
liberties and human rights, backing up words with
passage of milestone legislation that is attracting
national recognition.
Recently, he persuaded the legislature to look at
new directions for Wisconsin's economic future
designed to cure our economic ills rather than short
term remedies at the expense of the poor and the
elderly. He has been designated to head a special
Legislative Council task force to chart a new course
for our state's industrial development-new industry
that will guarantee growth and jobs for Wisconsin
in the years to come.
In an unprecedented move by the Assembly,
David Clarenbach and the Government Operations
Committee which he chairs were given special
authority to investigate the Dreyfus administration's
record layoff of public employees and the impact of
those layoffs on needed programs serving the people
of the state.
"Thanks to ... plucky state legislators, such as
David Clarenbach for daring to propose
pioneering legislation that is often impolitic but
usually usefully provocative."
The Milwaukee Journal
David Clarenbach has won the respect and
trust of his colleagues in the Assembly, for his
ability as a leader and floormanager during debate.
Other than the Speaker, no legislator has spent more
time in the chair presiding over the Assembly.
But even greater potential lies ahead. Our
future depends on solving Wisconsin's problems
today. David Clarenbach is working to solve those
problems... experience says he will.
"Congratulations on your far-sighted, committed
and unselfish support of a bill that embodies the
most creative consumer idea of the last
generation."
Ralph Nader
