CONDEMNING HOMOPHOBIA AND RELATED VIOLENCE IN DANE COUNTY
WHEREAS, since 1980 Dane County, upon action of the Board of Supervisors,
has been on record against discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation,
and
WHEREAS, this policy was adopted by the State of Wisconsin in 1982, and
WHEREAS, subsequently the state has outlawed hate crimes prescribing
increased penalties for crimes on several bases including sexual orientation,
and
WHEREAS, Dane County has in this year of 1990 seen acts of homophobia and
violence including murder directed against lesbians and gay men that inhibits
their full and free participation as citizens of our community, and
WHEREAS, there are community based organizations, including the Madison
Community United composed of gay men, lesbians and their friends, who
contribute countless volunteer hours to fight homophobia and discrimination.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Dane County Board of Supervisors
expresses its rejection of homophobia and related violence against members of
our Dane County community and expresses its appreciation to the Madison
Community United and the many gay men
lesbians who work to make our
community a better place to live.
