OFFICIAL COMMITTEE BUSINESS
League of Women Voters of Wisconsin
433 West Washington Avenue Madison Wisconsin 53703 Telephone 608 256-0827
April 1, 1975
Assembly Judiciary Committee
c/o Rep. Lloyd Barbee, Chairman
State Capitol
Madison, Wisconsin 53702
Dear Committee Members:
The League of Women Voters of Wisconsin is unable
to send a representative to the hearing today, April 1,
on AB 358; therefore, we send this note to indicate our
support for that bill. The legal prohibition against
discrimination on the basis of sex in places of public
accommodation is a matter of simple justice for women.
Since many decisions and discussions of public and private
import take place in informal settings in restaurants,
lounges, and clubs, it is vital to women to be able to
enter such places.
To assure the right to privacy in personal matters,
the bill includes the familiar provision that nothing
shall prohibit separate treatment with regard to public
toilets, showers, saunas and dressing rooms for persons
of different sexes.
We hope you will recommend this bill for passage.
Sincerely yours,
Floss Whalen
